The ratings are in for both Jennifer Hudson and Sherrie Shepherd’s new daytime talk shows. Both ladies premiered their talk shows on Monday, September 12th. And both ladies took on staff from their predecessors in their time slots.
Sherri, almost infamously, took on a lot of the former staff of The Wendy Williams Show. And Jennifer Hudson took on a lot of staff of The Ellen Show.
And so there have been high expectations and a lot of pressure placed on both of these women to perform well in their time slots.
The Nielson ratings have come in for both shows and they are actually both doing fantastic!
New daytime stars Jennifer Hudson and Sherri Shepherd both premiered their new talk shows on Monday, tying at a 0.8 rating/4 share weighted metered market average for their primary runs, according to Nielsen. Warner Bros.’
Jennifer Hudson came in 33% ahead of last year’s average performance, while Debmar-Mercury’s Sherri equaled its year-ago time period average.
The report goes on to say:
The two shows run back-to-back in seven of the top nine markets, including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. In many Fox-owned markets, Jennifer Hudson took over the time slots of Debmar-Mercury’s concluded Nick Cannon, while Sherri stepped in for the Lionsgate-owned syndicator’s ended Wendy Williams.
So when the ratings say Jennifer Hudson is up 33% in her time slot compared to last year, that means compared to The Nick Cannon Show, which had her time slot last year and didn’t do well, likely because of the fact that he didn’t have the Wendy Williams audience lead in.
And when they say Sherri Shepherd is doing the same as the Wendy Williams time slot last year, that actually shouldn’t be surprising, in my opinion, because Sherri Shepherd was the one hosting the WW for a large part of last year.
