Ja’Net Dubois Death Certificate Lists CAB CALLOWAY As Her Biological Father

The death certificate for actress Ja’Net Dubois revealed a family secret that Ja’Net literally took to the grave. Her death certificate was obtained by TMZ and it lists Cab Calloway as Ja’Net’s biological father.

Cabell “Cab” Calloway III (who was born December 25, 1907 and passed away on November 18, 1994) was an American jazz singer, dancer, bandleader, and actor. He was associated with the Cotton Club in Harlem, New York City, where he was a regular performer and became a popular vocalist of the swing era. His niche for mixing jazz and vaudeville won him acclaim during a career that spanned over 65 years.

Ja’Net Dubois’ death certificate lists her real name as Jeannette T. Calloway-DuBois. She reportedly took on her stepfather’s name (Gordon Dubois) because he was so instrumental in raising her. Her mother’s name is Lillian Gouedy. And her mother’s name is the same on the death certificate, but Gordon Dubois is nowhere on the document, which was submitted by her daughter, Dr. Kesha Grupta-Fields.

The document also identifies Ja’Net Dubois age as 87 (born in 1932), however in public biographies Ja’Net Dubois age at her time of death is listed as 74 (born in 1945.) It sounds like Ja’Net Dubois may have been keeping her age and her biological father a secret all these years!

Cab Calloway’s estate reportedly has no clue that he allegedly fathered Ja’Net Dubois. The estate told TMZ:

“While we have a great appreciation for Ja’Net DuBois’ long and successful career, the Calloway Estate has nothing to add to this single document that has numerous mistakes and no verification.”

The estate reportedly told TMZ they’d be open to a conversation with Ja’Net Dubois’ family if there were any “compelling facts to substantiate” their claim.
