These are my thoughts on the passing of Bishop Eddie Long, former pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in GA. He passed away today, January 15, after a long fight against an aggressive form of cancer.

His past relationship with young men in his church has caused many people to speculate if his failing health was a punishment from God. My opinion is based on the below Bible verses:

Gifts of God – Romans 11:29 KJV For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

Different Sins – James 2: 10-11 ESV For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it. For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.

Wages of sin – Romans 6: 23 NLT For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Death – Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die
Revelations 14: 13 Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!”

Salvation – John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Salvation for Gentiles – Acts 28:28 ISV “Therefore I want you to know that God’s salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen!”

Why Jesus Came Into The World – 1 Thessalonians 5:9-11 For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
